Business travel is a journey or a tour specifically taken for work purposes and office meetings. It does not include daily commutes, leisure trips or holidays.

According to the WTO, around 30% of international trips these days are for business purposes and business travel shows no sign of slowing down in the present stage. A Conker survey based on 500 million cost statements collected from about 15,000 corporate customers in 2011 also found that more plane tickets, higher hotel prices, and more expensive ground transportation, such as taxis, make business trips more expensive. This shows that

Ten years ago, many Asian cities were probably not in the top five, shifting the global economy to the east and increasing the need for business travelers to the region. For many travelers visiting one of the five most visited business destinations, the cost breakdown is as follows:


  • London

The British capital is the commercial and financial center of the world, home to many multinational corporations and the most visited city by business travelers in 2011. Contrary to popular belief, this city ranked in the sixth on the list of most expensive cities.   • Shanghai

In English-speaking Southeast Asian financial centers, which are now the gateway to Indonesia’s growth and prosperity, travel by taxi, rental car, or public transportation is relatively inexpensive. Singapore business travelers still pay a little more for out-of-home meals than London travelers.
